Hong Kong Actor Nick Cheung Sells Luxury Apartment at Major Loss
Veteran Hong Kong actor Nick Cheung has reportedly sold one of his luxury properties in Hong Kong’s prestigious Mid-Levels district, but the deal ended with a significant financial loss estimated at around HK$7.1 million (US$900,000).
According to local reports, the apartment is located in the upscale Grenville House residential complex, an exclusive low-density development well known for attracting wealthy residents and celebrities due to its privacy and prime location.
Luxury Apartment Sold After Years on Market
The spacious property reportedly features four bedrooms with a usable floor area of approximately 312 square metres.
Nick Cheung purchased the apartment in 2017 for around HK$131 million and later sold it in May 2026 for HK$132 million. Although the selling price appeared slightly higher than the purchase price, transaction taxes, legal expenses, and agency fees reportedly resulted in an overall loss of more than HK$7 million.
Reports also stated that Cheung and his family lived in the apartment for about three years before putting it on the market. The property remained unsold for several years before finally finding a buyer this year.
Property Market Challenges Continue
The sale reflects the ongoing pressure facing Hong Kong’s luxury property market, where some high-end homeowners have struggled to secure profits despite the city’s traditionally strong real estate sector.
Economic uncertainty, changing market demand, and higher financing costs have contributed to slower activity in the premium housing segment over recent years.
Nick Cheung Keeping a Low Profile
Now 61 years old, Nick Cheung has maintained a relatively low public profile in recent years while reportedly reducing his acting workload to spend more time with his family.
Earlier this year, he and his wife, actress Esther Kwan, were spotted attending a concert by Hong Kong music duo Farmers, drawing attention from fans online.
Legendary Career in Hong Kong Cinema
Nick Cheung is widely regarded as one of Hong Kong cinema’s most respected actors, directors, and singers. He first rose to fame through television work at TVB during the late 1980s before transitioning successfully into film.
Over the years, he earned critical acclaim for performances in movies such as SPL: Sha Po Lang, Beast Stalker, and From Vegas to Macau.
He won the Best Actor award at the Hong Kong Film Awards for his powerful performance in “Beast Stalker,” cementing his reputation as one of the industry’s top talents.
