The condition of the Boeung Trabek canal, which has an average width of 6 meters and a capacity to drain only 12 cubic meters per second, has caused heavy rainfall exceeding 40 mm per hour, causing prolonged flooding in some parts of the Boeung Keng Kang, Chamkar Mon, 7 Makara, and Daun Penh districts.
To solve the above flooding problem, Road No. 105 adjacent to the Boeung Trabek canal needs to be widened from 6 m to 12 m wide in order to increase the drainage of the canal from 12 cubic meters per second to 24 cubic meters per second to drain the water properly. In this case, a large box culvert, 6 m wide and 3 m deep, must be placed under Road No. 105 adjacent to the canal, while the same road must be constructed above.
According to officials from the Phnom Penh Department of Public Works and Transport, work at the construction site has been underway for more than 4 months as of today, with more than 60% completed and will be completed in May 2025. According to experts, this large-scale box culvert will contribute to reducing flooding in the above-mentioned area.
