Domestic Tourism in Cambodia Continues to Grow as Local Travel Rises in 2026

Cambodia's domestic tourism sector continues to show strong momentum in 2026, with millions of local travelers choosing to explore destinations across the country despite ongoing global economic and security challenges.

According to official figures from the Ministry of Tourism, approximately 20.3 million domestic trips were recorded during the first five months of 2026 (January–May), representing a significant increase compared to the same period last year.

The growth has been supported by nationwide tourism campaigns, new travel experiences, cultural festivals, and entertainment events that encourage Cambodians to discover destinations within their own country. Popular attractions, natural landscapes, historical sites, and community-based tourism have all contributed to the increase in domestic travel.

At the same time, the number of Cambodians traveling abroad declined during the same period, reflecting a stronger preference for local tourism and increased interest in exploring Cambodia's diverse attractions.

Tourism officials also highlighted continued investment in tourism infrastructure, including accommodations, restaurants, tourist sites, and community tourism initiatives, helping improve travel experiences for both local and international visitors.

Industry observers believe that strengthening domestic tourism not only supports local businesses and creates employment but also helps build a more resilient tourism industry capable of adapting to changing global conditions.

As Cambodia continues promoting sustainable and year-round travel, domestic tourism is expected to remain an important driver of economic growth while showcasing the country's rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and hospitality.
