Cambodia Highlights Nationwide Crackdown on Online Scam Networks in Interview with Japanese Media

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – Cambodian authorities have highlighted the country's ongoing efforts to combat online scam operations during a recent interview with Japan's TBS Television, emphasizing continued enforcement against transnational cybercrime networks.

Officials stated that since early 2025, law enforcement agencies have investigated and raided more than 500 locations suspected of involvement in online scam activities across Cambodia. Hundreds of sites have reportedly been sealed, while legal action has been taken against numerous suspects as part of broader anti-cybercrime operations.

According to government representatives, the campaign is designed not only to dismantle scam operations but also to strengthen digital security, protect the public, and reinforce Cambodia's reputation as a safe destination for tourism, business, and investment.

Authorities noted that online scams are a global challenge affecting many countries and stressed the importance of international cooperation in addressing increasingly sophisticated cross-border criminal networks.

The government also highlighted the introduction of new legal measures aimed at improving the investigation and prosecution of technology-related fraud. Officials said these laws are intended to strengthen digital governance, enhance public safety, and provide stronger protection for citizens and businesses operating in Cambodia.

In addition to criminal investigations, authorities continue working with domestic agencies and international partners to identify organized crime groups, improve information sharing, and enhance enforcement capabilities against cyber-enabled fraud.

Cambodian officials reaffirmed that operations against online scam networks remain ongoing and that efforts will continue to target illegal activities while supporting a safer digital environment for residents, investors, and international visitors.
