A water pig, a rare and vulnerable animal, has been spotted living in a brown forest fishing community!!!!

Fisheries Administration Spokesperson Mr. Sor Soren informed on the morning of 15 July 2024 that on 4 and 5 July 2024, a team from the Marine Conservation Corporation of Cambodia (MCC) spotted the presence of another water pig that had come to live in the brown fishing community's territory.

He continued that the presence of water pigs makes us know that the Kampot Marine District, especially all conservation areas and fishing communities, is rich in resources, rich in biodiversity, rich in food, and has become a safe habitat for rare and vulnerable animals such as water pigs, sea turtles, sea horses, and dolphins.

The Marine Conservation Organisation of Cambodia (MCC) team has also confirmed that to date, the team has not been able to confirm the number of water pigs in Kampot province's territorial waters, pending the completion of the research project this year, but in the first half of 2024, the team spotted five water turtles in Kampot province in the seagrass field area where the team dropped artificial boxes because the water pig feed is seagrass. Kampot Province has 9 fishing communities, 11 species of seagrass on 8 435 hectares of seabed, 953 hectares of corals, 1 966 hectares of mangrove forests and 13 conservation sites.
