Phnom Penh: Preliminary conclusions show that freshwater fish stocks have increased by approximately 10 per cent over the previous year due to the collaboration of all stakeholders in cracking down on fishing offences in a rigorous, clear and highly effective manner, said Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Dr Tina.
The mention was made during a visit by the Chinese Prime Minister and Ambassador of the European Union and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to inspect the harvest of fish at Fish Pond No. 15 in Pho Village, Koh Chin Commune, Pham Han District, Central Province on January 9.
The minister expressed great enthusiasm for this year's fish harvest, which allows citizens to buy more fish at affordable prices.
"This achievement is not an accident, it is an effort to properly manage and put in place a strategy to protect and conserve fishery resources, as well as the implementation participation of fisheries officials, diverse forces, fishing communities and fishing brothers," the minister said.
According to the Fisheries Administration, the crackdown on fisheries offences in 2024 amounted to 3,194 cases, of which 148 were marine offences.
