Japan to provide more than US$240,000 in grants for clean water supply in Kampong Klang

The Japanese government has recently granted over $240,000 to enhance the clean water supply in two villages within Kampong Khleang commune, Soutr Nikom district, Siem Reap province. This initiative, part of Japan's Kusanone project, aims to construct approximately 8 kilometers of water distribution pipelines, benefiting around 2,300 residents by providing them with safe and affordable drinking water. The project will be executed by the Cambodian Rural Water Supply Association.
This grant underscores Japan's ongoing commitment to improving water infrastructure in Cambodia. Over the past three decades, through the Kusanone project, Japan has funded approximately 700 grassroots initiatives across the country, totaling around $71 million.
In addition to the recent grant, Japan has previously supported similar projects in Cambodia. For instance, in March 2019, the Japanese government provided a $30 million grant to the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft to enhance the clean water supply system in Kampong Thom province. This project involved constructing a water treatment plant capable of producing up to 7,500 cubic meters of clean water daily and extending the distribution network by approximately 152 kilometers.
These efforts reflect Japan's dedication to assisting Cambodia in achieving its goal of universal clean water access, thereby improving the quality of life for its citizens.
