Major national highways with a length of more than 6,000 kilometers will be free of garbage from the end of 2025 onwards

 126 major national highways with a length of more than 6,000 kilometers will be free of garbage from the end of 2025, and each school, health center, and monastery nationwide will also receive three garbage bins.

These are the key action plans of the National Highway Cleanup Campaign "National Highway No Garbage and Plastic Waste" announced by the Ministry of Environment and disseminated to the leaders of ministries, institutions, and national and international stakeholders on March 27.

Minister of Environment Ang Sophallet stated that the "National Highway No Garbage, No Plastic Waste" campaign, which was announced last January, was launched to complement the "Clean Cambodia, Cambodia Possible" campaign.

These two campaigns are being pushed to be joint actions at the same time to clean up the environment, compounds around villages, schools, monasteries and in public places.

The Minister mentioned the support and encouragement to provide support in the form of resources or other materials. The Ministry plans to provide three garbage bins to schools, health centers, and monasteries nationwide to strengthen waste management as a priority by deploying garbage bins for standard waste segregation nationwide.

The provision of garbage bins is focused on separating and recycling waste, which can significantly reduce pollution and increase additional income in schools as well as waste recycling businesses.

"At the same time, the ministry will pay high attention to garbage segregation and the construction of garbage dumps that are in line with standards, technical and hygienic.

On that occasion, the Ministry of Environment also provided five more garbage trucks to the Provincial Environment Department and the Association.

Chairman of the Association of Environmentalists and Social Lovers, Mr. Chum Hoot, said that the association will use the vehicle to participate in the ministry's campaign towards implementing cleanliness in Cambodia for sustainability.

He said that the association will focus on garbage picking on National Highway 3 at least three times a month, striving to seek support from students, citizens, factory workers, enterprises local authorities, etc.

He stated: "This truck, we will use in the garbage collection campaign, take it to a safe place, we collect it, we don't dump it anywhere, we take it to the landfill properly, don't scatter it anymore if it is collected and not put in a safe place, it is the same."

The ministry said that the action plan of the national highway clean-up campaign "National Highway No Garbage and Plastic Waste" will be implemented in the capital and provinces across the country, focusing on 126 major stretches of national highways with a total length of 6 309.57 km.

These activities include: Continuing to promote and inspire the clean-up movement at the national highway regularly and participating in cleaning the front of the house or personal location with the village, commune, and neighborhood forces at least twice a week.

Apart from that, there is a continued commitment from students, workers, workers, employees of companies, factories, enterprises, and sub-national administrations, which is an important factor for cleanliness in Cambodia.

In addition, the Ministry will commend the capital, provincial, municipal, district, and district administrations and stakeholders for implementing the action plan well.
