Cambodia's freight forwarding sector will move forward even faster after the General Department of Customs of Cambodia (GDCE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with DHL Express (Cambodia) Ltd on the management and exchange of information and express consignments.
The MoU signing ceremony was held between Mr. Kun Nhim, Director General of the General Department of Customs and Government of Cambodia, and Mr. Prayag Chitrakar, Chairman of DHL Express (Cambodia) Ltd, at GDCE's headquarters on 27 March 2025.
The objective of the MoU is to promote the simplification of customs clearance procedures for express shipments and establish transparency, efficiency, and high cooperation between the General Department of Customs and the Government of Cambodia, and DHL Express Cambodia Ltd.
Chairman of DHL Express Cambodia Ltd, Mr. Prayag Chitrakar, expressed his pleasure to have signed the MoU with the Cambodian Customs and Government as this MoU will contribute to boosting Cambodia's rapid transit sector to better transform Cambodia into a regional logistics hub and enhance Cambodia's competitiveness in the logistics sector.
Mr. Kun Naim mentioned that this MoU is another milestone in expanding cooperation with DHL Express (Cambodia) Ltd to promote trade facilitation, improve the business and investment environment in Cambodia, as well as contribute to the Royal Government's national economic development.
According to DHL Express (Cambodia) Ltd, the key contents of the MoU include strengthening the collaboration between GDCE and DHL in the connection of automated systems and electronic data exchange, reducing the need for documents to accompany customs declarations, reducing the burden of entering customs declaration data, and improving the risk management functions and setting up the communication network of GDCE and DHL, among others.
In the past, the General Department of Customs and the Government of Cambodia have signed Memorandums of Understanding with several organizations or companies, such as the Cambodian Electronics and Technology Association (CETA), Chip Mong Insee Cement Corporation, and especially the MOU with Cambodia Post on cooperation in the exchange of postal parcel information, further facilitating as well as enhancing the compliance of customs clearance forms.
Chairman of the Cambodian Logistics Association, Sen Chanthee, who participated in the MoU signing ceremony, told Phnom Penh Post on March 27 that the MoU will contribute to boosting and enhancing the efficiency of Cambodia's logistics sector.
The MoU also provides for the sharing of information and the development of IT systems to make the delivery of goods faster and more efficient.
"This MoU will contribute to improving the efficiency and speed of goods transportation between Cambodia and other countries," he said.
Data from the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation of Cambodia shows that in 2024, Cambodia's air transport recorded positive growth, of which air passenger traffic amounted to 6.24 million, an increase of 22 percent.
