Phnom Penh: Authorities quickly arrested three suspects on May 21 following a brutal case involving the rape, murder and robbery of a 15-year-old girl that took place in the bathroom of Wat Kruet Primary School in Krut Village, Sangkat Samrong, Khan Preah Phrae.
The discovery of the body was reported to the police and the Child Protection Unit (CPU).
The Child Protection Unit (CPU) and local officials conducted a rigorous examination of the crime scene and conducted a post-forensic investigation to determine the full scope of what happened during the brutal murder case.
According to the CPU, "The investigation team reached the determination of the cause of death, as well as the view of the activities that took place on the victim child at the time of the incident.
The suspect was questioned and confessed to the offence, as well as being involved in the third suspect.
A few hours later, the third suspect was taken into custody.
Phnom Penh Metropolitan Police Commissioner spokesman Sam Novak said that the 18-year-old Sok Chansovanseng, a 18-year-old man with no real occupation, was known as a neighbor in Dang Village, Sangkat Preah Phrae, Khan Preah Phrae.
He stated in an audio tape: "The suspect, Chan Sovann Seng, contacted the victim girl and put the drug in a drink, raped her and killed her in the room of Wat Krut Primary School, located in Wat Jestha General, Wat Kruth, National Highway 5, Phnom Krush, Sangkat Samrong, Khan Preah Phrae."
The incident occurred at 01:27 p.m. on May 21.
Two suspects, Thien Pharath, 15, and Bo Hum, 16, were detained on charges of conspiracy to murder.
Currently, the above suspects are building a case to be sent to the Phnom Penh Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office for further legal proceedings.
The Child Protection Unit (CPU) is a specialized division established through a partnership between the National Guard of Cambodia and the Cambodian Children's Fund.
Since its inception in 2013, the CPU has been working alongside law enforcement to investigate serious crimes against children, including rape and murder, providing forensic support from experts, rapid response teams, and victim assistance.
