Cambodia exported nearly 3.6 million tonnes of rice to the international market in the first half of 2025, collecting more than US$1 billion, an increase of nearly 7 percent compared to the first half of last year.
According to data from the Cambodian Rice Federation (CRF), from January to June 2025, Cambodia exported 387,070 tonnes of rice to 63 countries/territories, collecting US$283.41 million.
According to the CRF, the main rice export targets for the first half of 2025 include European countries (26 countries) with a volume of 182,885 tonnes or US$143.64 million, China and the Autonomous Administrative Region with 102,509 tonnes worth US$60.25 million, ASEAN member countries (7 countries) with 52,890 tonnes or US$37.09 million, and other destinations (32 countries) with 48,785 tonnes or US$42.42 million.
For export rice, 75 percent aromatic rice, 19.68 percent long-grain white rice, 2.49 percent steamed rice, 2.13 percent organic rice, and 0.7 percent other rice.
Separately, rice exports in the first half of 2025 achieved 3,176,561 tonnes, equivalent to $757.49 million, compared to the first half of 2024, which amounted to 2,528,011 tonnes and received $727.36 million, according to CRF.
Minister of Trade, Mrs. Cham Virtual, on June 16, the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Cambodian Rice Federation (CRF), mentioned that with the joint efforts of the CRF, development partners, and stakeholders, Cambodia has now turned itself into a country with a large rice surplus. By 2024, Cambodia had exported more than 65 million tonnes of rice to 75 countries.
"Rice is Cambodia's strategic crop for food security and nutrition, not only as an essential basic food, but also as a potential export commodity among the list of agricultural products selected as priorities for boosting exports," she continued.
Cambodian rice has been recognized worldwide as the world's best rice, having won the "World's Best Rice Award" six times, in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2022, and the last time in 2024.
In 2024, Cambodia will earn US$1,987.16 million from rice exports, of which US$1,496 million for rice exports and US$419.19 million for rice exports.
