Gunfire is no longer heard after a 50-day ceasefire, but wire pellets are still being transported by Thailand in the Rural Villages of Chan and the village of Vinh Province as Thailand claims territory where Cambodian civilians have lived for decades.
The wire blowing event took place on the afternoon of Sept. 17 and 16, when dozens of Thai soldiers and police carried wire scattered on the territory of the Chang Municipal Village, in a three-storey village in O Luk district.out.
Cambodia, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as the Ministry of National Defense, asked the Thai side to cease its activities and take the issue to settle through the negotiations of the Cambodian Border Conflict Commission (JBC).
But Cambodia's request was not ignored, instead the Cambodians sent a force of soldiers and police to remove the wire ropes.
Mr. Yun Pung, Secretary-General of the Cambodian Academy of Sciences, stated that Thailand does not respect bilateral agreements and international decisions, let alone the ceasefire accord signed last month, and that Thailand continues to intolerate Cambodia to escalate into violence.
He said: "We are struggling because on September 16, the Thai soldiers are still coming in more aggressively, there are guns of all kinds and our citizens are coming out to protest. And if we let the army have guns, have weapons to the opposition, it will lead to an explosion of weapons and it will affect the ceasefire track, and all this is a desirable Thainess, is to want Cambodia to fall into the ceasefire violation trap of which Thailand itself is a violator."
He continues: "As a solution, we must resist through nonviolence, that is, the forces, the citizens, the authorities, to prevent Thailand from dismantling the wires, encircling the plantations by nonviolent means.
Further tasks include speeding up the filing of complaints with the International Court of Justice, submitting complaints to the UN Council for all cases, and submitting reports to the ASEAN Secretariat, Malaysia, the ASEAN Chair.
In addition, he said that Thailand's hatred must be widely disseminated through the press, both domestically and internationally.
As for the future, Mr. Yang said that only Cambodia can strengthen itself can it afford to protest and resist the contempt of the Thai side.
