Cambodia Urges Fuel Sellers and Public to Manage Risks in Fuel Storage and Sales

In a recent announcement, the ministry emphasized that improper storage of fuel can create serious safety hazards and threaten public security. Gas station operators are therefore required to strictly follow established technical standards and operational guidelines when handling fuel products.

Authorities warned that storing fuel without proper safety measures can increase the risk of fires and other accidents. As a result, fuel station owners must ensure that both fuel sales and storage are conducted in compliance with nationally recognized safety standards.

At the same time, the ministry encouraged citizens to use fuel responsibly and avoid purchasing excessive amounts for storage. According to officials, panic buying or hoarding fuel beyond normal household needs may increase the risk of fire incidents and could endanger property and community safety.

The ministry also confirmed that officials from the Consumer Protection Competition and Fraud Repression Directorate-General, working together with provincial departments of commerce and energy authorities, are continuing regular inspections of fuel stations across the country.

These inspections aim to ensure that gas stations follow technical safety standards and to prevent any businesses from taking advantage of the situation by raising fuel prices unfairly.

The Ministry of Commerce urged all stakeholders—including fuel companies, station owners, and consumers—to act responsibly to maintain safety and stability in Cambodia’s fuel market.

Officials stressed that cooperation from all parties is essential to protect consumers and ensure a steady and secure supply of fuel throughout the country.
