Former CIA Official Accused of Stealing Millions in Gold Bars From US Government

A former senior official linked to the Central Intelligence Agency has been charged in the United States after investigators allegedly discovered hundreds of gold bars, foreign currency, and luxury watches hidden inside his home.

Federal prosecutors say the former government employee, who reportedly held top secret-level security clearance, is accused of stealing assets worth tens of millions of dollars from the US government.

Hundreds of Gold Bars Discovered

According to court filings in Virginia, investigators searched the suspect’s property earlier this month and reportedly uncovered more than 300 gold bars with an estimated value exceeding US$40 million.

Authorities also seized approximately US$2 million in foreign currency along with dozens of luxury watches, including several high-end Rolex timepieces.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Alleged Misuse of Government Resources

Investigators allege the former official obtained large quantities of gold and foreign currency between late 2025 and early 2026 under the justification of “work-related expenses.”

Court documents claim some of the missing assets were later discovered in a storage facility located near the suspect’s office.

Federal prosecutors have accused the man of illegally converting government property for personal use.

The suspect was arrested last week and formally charged with theft of public money.

Questions Surround Former CIA Employee

Authorities have not publicly released full details of the man’s exact position within the CIA, but court filings reportedly describe him as a former senior-level government executive.

The case has drawn major attention due to the scale of the alleged theft and the sensitive nature of the suspect’s former role inside one of America’s most secretive intelligence agencies.

Investigators Also Probe False Background Claims

In addition to the theft allegations, investigators reportedly discovered inconsistencies involving the suspect’s personal and professional history.

According to the FBI affidavit, the man allegedly claimed for years that he had attended prestigious universities and served as a Navy pilot.

However, investigators reportedly found no records showing he graduated from the schools mentioned or completed pilot evaluations during his military service.

Major Security Concerns Raised

The case has triggered broader concerns about oversight and accountability involving high-ranking government officials with access to classified operations and valuable state assets.

Security analysts say the investigation could lead to increased scrutiny over internal auditing procedures within sensitive US agencies.

The CIA has not publicly commented on the allegations, while the FBI has declined to provide additional details as the investigation continues.

The accused remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
