Taekwondo Gym Head Accused of Three Attempted Murder Plots in South Korea
Police in South Korea have arrested a female taekwondo gym owner after investigators uncovered an alleged murder plot involving multiple attempts to kill an employee’s husband in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province.
Authorities say the suspect, a woman in her 20s identified only as Ms. A, worked together with a female employee in her 40s, identified as Ms. B, in a series of planned attacks targeting the employee’s husband.
Police Investigating Multiple Murder Attempts
According to investigators, the alleged crimes began late last month when the suspects reportedly attempted to poison the victim using alcohol mixed with prescription drugs.
Police claim the pair placed a large bottle of soju containing crushed benzodiazepine pills inside the family’s refrigerator, allegedly hoping the victim would drink it while alone at home.
When the first attempt failed, investigators say another bottle of alcohol was later prepared and left in the mailbox of the residence as part of a second alleged attempt.
Authorities reported that the drugs involved belonged to the benzodiazepine class, medications commonly prescribed for anxiety and insomnia.
Investigators allege that dozens of pills were crushed into powder and mixed into the alcohol.
Third Incident Involved Weapon Attack
The case escalated further after a third alleged attack occurred on May 6.
Police say Ms. A allegedly injured the victim with a weapon at the residence. Initially treated as a serious assault case, investigators later upgraded the charge to attempted murder after reviewing evidence and the earlier poisoning allegations.
Officials stated that evidence suggested the attacks were planned in advance.
Arrest and Court Proceedings
Ms. A was arrested shortly after the latest incident and later appeared at a pre-arrest hearing held at the Bucheon branch of the Incheon District Court.
Authorities continue investigating the relationship between the suspects and the motive behind the alleged crimes.
The victim survived the incidents, according to reports.
Public Shock Following Case
The case has drawn major public attention in South Korea due to the unusual nature of the allegations and the involvement of individuals connected to a martial arts training center.
Many online users expressed shock over the alleged repeated planning and use of prescription medication in the attacks.
Police have not yet released additional details regarding possible motives or further charges.
