Cambodia Cracks Down on Online Scam Operations, 100 Suspects Detained in Svay Rieng and Banteay Meanchey
Phnom Penh, Cambodia – June 2026 — Cambodian authorities have intensified their nationwide campaign against cybercrime and online fraud, resulting in the detention of 100 suspects during coordinated operations in Svay Rieng and Banteay Meanchey provinces.
The large-scale crackdown targeted locations suspected of operating illegal online scam activities, commonly known as Online Scams, which have become a growing concern across Southeast Asia.
78 Suspects Arrested in Svay Rieng
Authorities in Bavet City and Kampong Ro District conducted inspections and raids at four separate locations suspected of being involved in online fraud operations.
According to preliminary reports, law enforcement officers detained 78 individuals, including:
59 Chinese nationals
19 Vietnamese nationals
7 women among the total detainees
During the operation, authorities seized numerous items believed to be connected to online scam activities, including:
Desktop computers
Laptop computers
Computer monitors
CPU units
Mobile phones
Vehicles
Various communication devices
Officials stated that the suspects are being investigated and legal proceedings are underway. The suspected scam locations have been temporarily closed pending further investigation.
Online Scam Network Discovered in Poipet
In a separate operation in Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province, authorities inspected three properties and identified 74 Indonesian nationals residing at the locations.
Following digital forensic examinations, investigators determined that 22 individuals were allegedly involved in an online scam scheme targeting victims in Indonesia.
The operation uncovered evidence suggesting that scammers were impersonating tax collection officials in an effort to deceive victims and obtain money through fraudulent means.
The 22 suspects were transferred to local police for further questioning and legal procedures.
Immigration Violations Also Detected
During inspections of another property in Poipet, authorities found several foreign nationals residing without carrying valid passports or immigration documents.
Five individuals were referred to immigration officials for additional verification and processing under Cambodian immigration regulations.
Property owners are also being investigated for failing to properly report the presence of foreign residents as required by law.
Cambodia Continues Nationwide Anti-Scam Campaign
The latest operations are part of Cambodia’s broader effort to combat cybercrime, online fraud, illegal gambling, human trafficking, and other technology-related crimes.
Authorities have increased inspections of residential compounds, commercial buildings, rental properties, and business centers suspected of hosting fraudulent online operations.
Officials say the campaign will continue nationwide as law enforcement agencies work to identify criminal networks and strengthen cybersecurity enforcement.
