Cambodian Star Sin Yubin Appointed as UNICEF Cambodia's First National Goodwill Ambassador
Cambodian singer and actress Sin Yubin has officially been appointed as the first-ever National Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF Cambodia, marking a significant milestone in the organization's efforts to promote children's rights and well-being across the country.
The announcement was made during UNICEF's International Children's Day celebration held in Phnom Penh, attended by government representatives, development partners, artists, youth representatives, and distinguished guests.
A New Role Dedicated to Children
Speaking after accepting the appointment, Sin Yubin described the role as both an honor and a responsibility. She emphasized her commitment to using her public platform and influence to advocate for Cambodian children and raise awareness about issues affecting their lives.
According to the actress, the position represents more than recognition—it is an opportunity to support vulnerable children and help amplify their voices.
Years of Partnership with UNICEF
Sin Yubin has been working with UNICEF Cambodia since 2022. During that time, she participated in visits to schools, health centers, remote communities, and areas affected by various crises.
These experiences allowed her to witness firsthand the challenges many children continue to face, including:
Online safety and cyberbullying concerns
Mental health challenges
Malnutrition and nutrition-related issues
Educational inequalities
Early marriage among young people
She noted that meeting children from different communities has strengthened her determination to advocate for better opportunities and protections for every child.
Raising Awareness for Child Protection
During the event, leaders and guests highlighted the importance of collective action in protecting children. Speakers encouraged public figures, content creators, and artists to use their influence responsibly to promote child protection, education, and mental health awareness.
They emphasized that safeguarding children is not the responsibility of one institution alone but requires cooperation among government agencies, development organizations, businesses, civil society groups, families, and communities.
Supporting Children in a Digital Era
As Cambodia continues to embrace digital transformation, experts at the event stressed the need for positive role models and guidance for young people. Beyond material support, children also require compassion, mentorship, and safe environments that help them grow and thrive.
Sin Yubin's new role is expected to focus on raising awareness about children's rights while encouraging greater public support for programs that improve education, health, protection, and future opportunities for Cambodian youth.
Looking Ahead
As UNICEF Cambodia's first National Goodwill Ambassador, Sin Yubin has pledged to continue working closely with the organization to champion children's rights and ensure that young voices are heard.
Her appointment represents a new chapter in UNICEF Cambodia's advocacy efforts and highlights the growing role that influential public figures can play in supporting the next generation.
