Texas Suspect Allegedly Hijacks Police Cruiser During Transport, Dramatic Video Shows

DALLAS, Texas — Authorities in Dallas are investigating a dramatic incident in which a suspect allegedly escaped part of his restraints, entered the front of a police vehicle, and briefly drove away while an officer remained inside.

The incident occurred on May 30 after 37-year-old Stacey Huffman was arrested during a traffic stop. According to police, he was initially taken into custody on charges related to driving without a valid license, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Escape Attempt During Transport

Officials say Huffman was placed in the back seat of a patrol vehicle following his arrest. During the trip to jail, investigators believe he managed to free one of his hands from his handcuffs while concealing his actions from officers.

Body camera and dashcam footage reportedly showed the suspect removing his seatbelt and attempting to open the rear door multiple times before officers noticed unusual behavior and stopped the vehicle on Interstate 35.

When officers attempted to secure him again, Huffman allegedly moved into the driver's seat and accelerated away in the police cruiser.

High-Speed Struggle Inside Patrol Vehicle

Police said one officer managed to remain inside the vehicle during the incident. Video footage released by investigators appears to show a tense struggle as the officer repeatedly ordered the suspect to stop.

Authorities reported that the suspect drove erratically at speeds exceeding 50 miles per hour, creating a dangerous situation for both law enforcement and nearby motorists.

Officers used several methods in an effort to regain control of the situation before the vehicle eventually came to a stop.

Incident Ends With Injuries

According to investigators, the suspect exited the moving patrol vehicle during the incident and suffered serious injuries. Officers were then able to regain control of the cruiser and avoid a potential collision.

Both the suspect and the officer involved were transported to a hospital. Police said the officer was treated and later released, while Huffman remains hospitalized.

Additional charges, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and escape from custody, have been filed in connection with the incident.

Family Seeks Information

Family members have expressed concern about Huffman's medical condition, saying they have had limited access to information regarding his recovery.

Relatives told local media outlets they hope to receive updates and be allowed to visit him while he remains under medical care.

Investigation Continues

The Dallas Police Department's Special Investigations Unit is reviewing the incident, including the actions of everyone involved. Officials have stated that the investigation remains active and that additional details may be released as the case progresses.

The incident has drawn widespread attention online after footage of the dramatic escape attempt and police response began circulating across social media platforms.

Public Safety Reminder

Law enforcement experts note that transporting suspects remains one of the most unpredictable aspects of police work. Agencies across the United States regularly review transport procedures and officer safety protocols to reduce the risk of escape attempts and protect both officers and the public.
