Indian tourists visit Cambodia with religious respect!!!

An Indian tourist woman prays at the head of a bridge in Siem Reap province in January 2025.

Unlike tourists from other countries or regions, many tourists from India visit temples in Cambodia in connection with the practice of Hinduism or Buddhism, a religion originating from India.

Many ancient Khmer temples were built to pay homage to Buddhism or Hinduism, while some temples are connected to Buddhism, both of which originate from India.

Indian tourists are begging when visiting the head of the tree in Siem Reap province in January 2022.

He mentions that Indian tourists are very interested in the history of the temples and similar Hindu religions, monasteries, and traditional cultures, such as Angkor Wat Temple, Mount Kulen, and Bridgehead.

He said: "Because he also holds Hinduism, he understands this religion very well, such as the legends and sculptures carved on the rooftops at Angkor Wat temples, etc., which are all related to Indian mythology.

He continues: "The scriptures are related to Buddhism, we lose a lot, still on the side of Buddhism.Ethics is not just a casual visit."

According to Sidet, the number of Indian tourists in 2024 increased compared to 2023, and in 2025 he expects the number to be higher than in 2024 due to more direct flights between Cambodia and India.

Cambodia and India have established the first Cambodia-India Visit Year in 2024 to boost tourism between the two countries.

In February 2025, new direct flights will be added between New Delhi and Phnom Penh and between Kolkata and Siem Reap.

Recently released data from the Ministry of Tourism shows that in the first 11 months of 2024, foreign visitors to Cambodia totaled 6 million, an increase of 22 percent compared to the same period in 2023 which was 4.92 million.

Of the above numbers, visitors from India totaled 69,063, an increase of 13.2 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

Mr. Khieu Thi, Chairman of the Angkor Tour Guide Association, stated that from his own experience, he has observed that Indian tourists seem to be proud of the culture and religion from India that is present in Southeast Asia, especially in Cambodia.

He is very respectful when he sees Vishnu sculptures, penis sculptures, he respects humility and worship and pours magic water and is afraid of sin."

However, he reminded us that hospitality for Indian tourists requires a high level of patience because Indian tourists generally demand high services, such as strong air conditioning, and less respect for time.
