Mr. Thong Khun: Angkor Ultra Trail has helped promote Angkor and Cambodia to the world!!!

Running activities of national and international athletes at the 7th International Long Distance Running Day 2024.

Minister Thong Khun, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), asserted that the 8th Angkor Ultra Trail 2025, which will be held in Angkor in Siem Reap on 18 January, will be another important tourism event to help promote Angkor and Cambodia to the world through a large number of registered international athletes.

At a press conference on 6 January, Mr. Thong Khon said that Angkor Ultra Trail Day has been organized by the Royal Government of Cambodia with NOCC and Phoenix Voyages in the Angkor area every year since 2016, with 232 participants from 26 countries. Still, the number of participants has increased continuously, while the 7th Angkor Ultra Trail 2024 has 1,500 participants from 51 countries. Up 25 percent compared to 2023

As of 5 January, 1,368 people registered for the 8th Angkor Ultra Trail Day 2025 from 44 countries, with most athletes coming from France, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, and the United States.

Among the participants, Mr. Thong Khon said: "The Ultra Trail is a world sporting event, and what we have done here is also part of the Ultra Trail event in the world, which will help promote the trail and Cambodia to the world because runners, not just run for health, but come to our district, they may have a good interest and help promote us."

At the same time, former Minister of Tourism Thong Khon is very interested in the number of new athletes who have registered for the Angkor Ultra Trail 2025. These athletes will be the messengers in helping to promote Cambodia to the world.

This event helps to promote tourism from Cambodia, especially in the Angkor region, and contributes to the development of the national sports sector and humanitarian projects, as well as promoting from the World Heritage site to the outside, making a significant contribution to the development of the informal economy."

Meanwhile, Mr. Thong Khon spoke highly of Cambodia's long-distance runners who registered for the 100km run, up to 25 percent out of the 121 provisional registrants, including 5 Cambodian women.

Mr. Edouard George, Chairman of Phoenix Voyages, an expert in organizing the Ultra Trail event, stated that the Ultra Trail is an international running event recognized by the Ultra Trail Federation, and the federation and NOCC have worked hard to make the Angkor Ultra-Trail Running Day one of the most popular sporting events in the world to contribute to promoting Khmer tourism and culture to the world.

He stated: "A lot of participation from international athletes in this event so  it is an important factor to show them the actual situation of the tourist area in Angkor, and we also have Khmer cultural programs, traditions, such as blessing dance and lion martial arts, etc., presented to all foreign runners to make them enjoy both running and entertainment, as well as understanding Khmer culture and morality."
