Visit Koh Rong sandy beach, don't forget to go for a mangrove forest walk in the mangrove community!!!

Koh Rong Municipality NEWS: Located at the back of Koh Rong Territory, is a serene mangrove forest in Koh Rong Marine National Park, highlighting its natural beauty and eco-friendly recreation.

Koh Rong Preah Mangrove Ecotourism Community said that the community was born in April 2021 with a total area of 40 hectares, becoming a staple of sustainable tourism.

Under the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Environmental Conservation Association and the National Council for Sustainable Development, the establishment of this community aims to help the economy of the local community, generate income and livelihoods.

Mr. Sok Sreng, Chairman of the Preah Mangang Ecotourism Community, Koh Rong said: "The Preah Mangrove Ecotourism Community contributes to the creation and development of new tourism products in Sihanoukville as well as Koh Rong Municipality."

The community has a role to play in helping to conserve and protect mangrove forests and biodiversity on the island, which has a total population of nearly 4,000 people.

Mr. Sreng mentioned the tourism potential of the Preah Mangrove Ecotourism Area: "On normal days, we receive between 70 and 100 visitors, while on weekends and holidays, the community receives at least 100 visitors."

Apart from food services, such as island hops, bread crackers, mangrove coffee, and many other regional foods, the community is also poised to set up lodging houses for guests who wish to stay.

Mr. Long Diman, Deputy Governor of Sihanoukville Province, said: "This mangrove eco-tourism area has a very beautiful natural beauty, and here in Koh Rong there are not only attractive beaches, but we also have mountain forests, mangrove forests, as well as abundant resources under the seabed."

He added that beyond natural resources, Koh Rong has rich infrastructure, including high-speed boats, which provide guests with safety and comfort as well as environmental services and sanitation.

Mr. Maung Sinet, Governor of Sihanoukville Province, led officials to plant 1,000 mangrove seedlings in December 2024.

Mr. Diman stated that the attraction of tourists is the more and longer the stay, only the recycling of the resort in addition to the natural resources.

He stated: "Bali, Indonesia, can attract tens of millions of tourists each year because of the resort.

Mr. Diman encouraged investors to renovate luxury resorts to attract tourists from all over the world.

A group of approximately 60 journalists from 30 organizations visited the Mangrove Island Ecotourism Area.

Mr. Maung Sinet, Governor of Sihanoukville Province, said earlier in December 2024 that on the morning of December 3, 2024, Mr. Sun Shuxian, Vice Minister of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China, and Mr. An Sam, State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, participated in activities to restore the environment and create biodiversity in the mangrove area.

He wrote on Facebook: "We participated in the planting of 1,000 mangrove seedlings and the release ceremony of fish and rock crabs at the Mangrove Ecotourism Community, as well as putting up promotional signage in Koh Rong Marine National Park, located in Koh Rong District, Koh Rong Township, Sihanoukville Province."

Koh Rong is designated as the city of Koh Rong with 4 villages, namely Koh Toch Village, Tho Khoo Village, Prey Smau Village, and Sok San Village.

Noon Buntal, the mayor of Koh Rong, said that for generations, the residents on the island have relied on the abundant water around Koh Rong to sustain their livelihoods, with regular fishing.

He said: "However, as the tourism sector started to grow in Cambodia, the island's economy changed and many villagers turned to tourism-related services to earn a sustainable income."

The Royal Group has built a 40-kilometer-long concrete road around the island, enhancing connectivity between its villages, including the electricity network, which has been extended from Tarasakorn to the island.
