Trash youth turns into trainers of other youths to become teachers!!!

Young teachers received letters of commendation for their teaching work.

Phnom Penh NEWS: The sound of reading letters simultaneously is the voice of a poor child studying at the "School for Teaching Poor Children" in Bori Kang Meng, Sangkat Preek Kampot, Khan Dong Khong, Phnom Penh.

Not only is it a place to teach poor children, but this training center also trains youth resources to become quality teachers.

Mr. San Darawit, the director of the school for the poor and the founder of "Youth Teachers", told the Post: "Youth Teachers is a mission established to document young people who have a passion for the education sector, especially teaching students to become professional teachers."

Mr. Daravith reminded me that the Teachers' Youth Mission took shape after he ventured into the field of education and saw a shortage of teachers.

He stated: "In May 2023, I did a job to set up a school, called the School for Teaching Poor Children, where many children from various provinces come to follow their parents to work and they come to study here, at that time we had some young people in hand, we tried to get them to teach the children, the reason is because we lack teachers to teach the children."

An environmentalist who has done a lot in cleaning up the environment both at the sewers, along the river banks, and in various municipalities, Mr. San Daravith is known as the garbage youth, but in 2024, he changed his name back to "Teacher Youth", taking the name after his mission.

The 34-year-old founder claims that young people who want to become teachers can participate in the Youth Teacher Mission without any conditions.

He says: "Obviously, there are no conditions here to recruit young people to become teachers, we are based on their will, if he wants to become a teacher, he comes to meet, talk to each other, talk to each other, what does he have? What knowledge and skills does he have? We have a straight chat and we will start to work together."

Today, the founder of "Youth Teachers" has trained a total of 11 young people to become teachers, of which 7 are at the School for Poor Children in Phnom Penh and 4 are at the Phnom Oral Community School in Kampong Speu.

Regarding the training method, Mr. Daravith mentioned that the school always has meetings and discussions with teachers, which include training on patience, life skills, use of language to communicate with young students, use of time in teaching, children's mindset education lessons, and various entertainment to make sure that children get a good education.

He adds: "Besides this, teachers also develop various personal and professional abilities such as folding paper, drawing, and learning other things through YouTube because children need a lot of things to equip them, such as lifestyle, ethics, ethics, hygiene, and we need to invent that young man so that he is willing to share his experiences with children.

Regarding the difficulties in this mission, Mr. San Daravith explained that he had no experience in education and training of young people to become teachers before, so in the initial stage, he tried to learn and research various sources of documents from abroad, especially the education sector of Japan and Australia, and cited the best points to be introduced into the school's curriculum.

He continued: "We deliver the program, but the teachers are still in trouble because the kids that we teach, most of them live in an anarchic construction, morals, regimes, unlike ordinary children, there is a lot of difficulties, we have to coordinate ourselves with the children, all of that, another thing, what the teachers face a great difficulty is that all the students are not the same, and the level of study is also different, some of you are 12 years old and have not yet entered school, so he should go in. Kindergarten or entering the first grade, and the teacher has to be responsible with the students."

Apart from training the youth to become teachers, the school principals teaching the poor have also delivered training programs to make all the youth become leaders or school principals who can manage their educational positions.

He said that if the Youth Teachers Mission is successful, Cambodia will have more teachers who can expand to remote areas.

Mr. San Daravith: "We expect that the young teachers will grow bigger and we will have enough teachers to teach because we are building other schools because we see that there are more isolated places that are not yet trained, we want the children to learn, to be knowledgeable, and this is part of helping to build our Cambodian human resources and become a pillar of the nation."
