Kampong Speu: At least three people have died in a car accident involving a collision that occurred on Friday, February 7, on National Road 4 at the foot of Mount Lok Yai, located in Village 6, Ya Y Mao Pech Nil Commune, Phnum Sruoch District.
This tragic traffic accident happened between a white HYUNDAI sedan with license plate Phnom Penh 3E-7768 and a white ISUZU vehicle with license plate Phnom Penh 3F-8332. The HYUNDAI sedan was traveling uphill from east to west when it collided with the ISUZU vehicle, which was descending and traveling in the opposite direction. Authorities have concluded that the cause of this accident was due to the driver of the HYUNDAI sedan veering into the lane of the descending vehicle, resulting in this collision. The police confirmed: "The municipal police stationed at Lok Yai Mao intervened to facilitate emergency rescue, but unfortunately, the passengers in the vehicle sustained serious injuries that led to fatalities." The HYUNDAI sedan was driven by a 48-year-old man named Rong Thouk, residing in the village of Beung Tamom, Phong Commune, Kampong Speu Province. Meanwhile, the ISUZU vehicle was driven by a 26-year-old man named Kim Seanghun, residing in the village of Damnak Snoul, Kok Kong Commune, Prey Veng Province.
Both vehicles were seized by the authorities and are being kept at the provincial police headquarters of Phnum Sruoch for legal proceedings.
On the same day, there was also a traffic accident involving a truck that crashed into a mountain wall at the location of Phnum Orote, in the village of Pokroche, Sangkat Srae Ampoum, in Pechreada District, Mondulkiri Province. This self-inflicted accident resulted in at least three people sustaining serious injuries (two females and one male) and eleven others with minor injuries (four females and seven males).
A total of 46 people were traveling in that bus, who were on a study tour in Mondulkiri province. The victims included teachers, students, a driver, and the driver's assistant from the University of Agriculture.
