Prime Minister Hun Sen highlighted the need to ensure a market for the community’s cashew nuts while meeting with the Prasat Sambor Modern Farming Community in Prasat Sambor District, Kampong Thom Province on January 31. According to the Prime Minister, Kampong Thom Province is one of the Cambodian government’s priority provinces in attracting investors to process cashew nuts for sale in the international market.
It is worth noting that Cambodia currently has more than 580,000 hectares of cashew cultivation and production area, of which Kampong Thom province has 140,000 hectares of cultivation area, Ratanakiri province has 10,400 hectares, and Kratie province has 10,200 hectares.
According to a report by the Cambodian Cashew Association, in the first 10 months of 2024, Cambodia earned more than US$1.1 billion from exporting raw cashew nuts to Vietnam. This is a 31% increase compared to the same period in 2023, while Cambodian raw cashew nuts are currently in demand and commanding high prices on the market.
