The Walking Street, which the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration launched for a two-day trial, Saturday and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. last week, in the second week, on the evening of Saturday, February 8, 2025, there were still many fans and people going for a walk, which has increased significantly. This shows that it has been a step forward after the two-day trial of the Walking Street last week.
Ms. Daw Samphor, Deputy Director of Administration and spokesperson for the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration, said on the night of February 8: On the Walk Street, there were many Cambodians and foreigners visiting as of 9 p.m., and there were still many national and international tourists walking around. Especially at the statues of Techo Meas and Techo Yot or in front of Wat Unnalom because at this location, the capital administration has put on a music band to perform there as an attraction, attracting both foreigners and Cambodians to dance happily.
The spokesperson said that next week, we hope to have even more visitors because we can prepare a fun area and put up a variety of entertainment items.
Please note: The project to open a walking street (Walk Street) along Sisowath Avenue, from Paschim Chamkorn Street (Street No. 94) to the front of the Royal Palace.
The Phnom Penh administration has stated its stance to continue to do better to attract international visitors, by considering the key to attracting them from week to week.
It is worth noting that in a meeting on February 7, 2025, His Excellency Khuong Sreng, the Governor of Phnom Penh, stated that as a next step, we need to find a parking lot for motorcycles for citizens who come to enjoy the Walk Street. Next, we will organize ancient music concerts (masks, long-necked masks), painting areas, book reading areas or mobile libraries, souvenir areas, circus performances, etc. Through the trial launch of the Walk Street for the past 2 days, if we add more parking lots and organize more ancient music concerts, more visitors will come to enjoy the entertainment.
His Excellency Khuong Sreng, during the meeting, also urged the Department of Public Works and Transport of the capital to put lights in dark places, install attractive lights, and promote environmental sanitation. It is important that this location be clean, beautiful, and attractive.
At the same time, three existing public transport bus lines will be added to the Walk Street location, extending their hours until 11 pm to transport residents to their bus stops. The bus lines currently operating near the Walk Street area are 3 lines, 2A, 3 and 4A:
- Line 2A departs from Kouch Kanong Bus Station to Prek Samrong Bus Station (Tahmao City)
- Line 3 departs from Suon Chbar Russey Keo Station to Borey Santepheap 2 Station
- Line 4A departs from Suon Chbar Russey Keo Station to Borey Santepheap 2 Station.
