Two boys, brothers, and sisters, were burned to death in their house after their mother locked them in a house in Ang Tai Village, Kum Ta Mun, Batu Kok District, Lost Stick Province.
The victims were Sitha Savodi, 12, and Sitha Sovananda, 5, while their mother, Hun Sokhanti, 40, lived in Ang Nai, Kum Tamen, according to the National Police Commissioner on January 31, 2025.
The mother clarified to the police that on the day of the incident, he locked the outside and went to weed vegetables at the back of the house about 160 meters away.
Later, he also heard the sound of an explosion and turned to look at the house, saw that the fire had already destroyed the house and his children had died.
The spokesman stated: "The fire incident resulted in the death of two people and 1 stall measuring 5 meters by 12 meters, built of wood, completely damaged."
Experts are conducting research into the cause of the fire.
Batu Kok District Police Inspector Seng Luc was unable to comment on the fire case on February 3.
National Disaster Management Committee (NDMC) spokesman Sot Kimkolmoni said that in 2024, there were 823 fires in 25 provincial capitals, resulting in at least 20 deaths and 59 injuries.
Phnom Penh has the highest number of fires, with up to 150 fires, followed by Bang Thom Province with 87 and Siem Reap with 54.
Separately, lightning strikes in 2024 have also occurred more than 120 times, killing at least 68 people and injuring 55 people.
