British Tourist Attacked in Thailand After Dispute Over Alleged Shop Theft

A British tourist was caught in a violent confrontation with locals in Pattaya after being accused of attempting to steal drinks from a convenience store, according to reports from Thailand.

The incident reportedly took place outside a 7-Eleven branch on May 24 and quickly escalated into a chaotic street fight involving store workers and local bystanders.

Video Shows Heated Argument Outside Store

Footage circulating online shows the British man arguing with two Thai men in the parking area outside the convenience store. Witnesses claimed the tourist and his girlfriend were accused of trying to leave the shop with two bottles of energy drink without paying.

The British tourist repeatedly denied the accusations during the confrontation.

In the video, he can be heard shouting:

“Why are you hitting me? I’m not doing anything. I’ve already paid.”

Moments later, the situation turned physical after the tourist attempted to get onto his motorbike. Several men were seen kicking the bike and grabbing hold of him, leading to a struggle in the car park.

The tourist eventually threw his bag toward his girlfriend before running away from the scene on foot.

Reports said the couple left behind their motorbike and shoes during the confusion.

Store Employee Claims Tourists Refused to Pay

A worker at the store claimed the tourists were stopped before leaving the premises and were asked to settle the matter according to store policy.

According to the employee, the disagreement intensified after the couple allegedly refused to cooperate.

The employee stated:

“We tried to talk to them and asked them to pay, but they refused and tried to run away. Some locals stepped in to help and the fight started.”

Authorities have not confirmed whether any formal charges were filed following the altercation.

Social Media Divided Over Incident

The incident sparked heated debate online, with many social media users criticizing the violence and arguing that staff should have contacted police instead of physically confronting the tourists.

Others used the incident to discuss concerns about tourism behavior in Thailand and stricter visa regulations recently introduced by Thai authorities.

Thailand has recently reduced visa-free stay periods for some visitors as officials attempt to address concerns over disruptive tourist behavior in popular destinations.

Pattaya Continues to Face Tourist Violence Concerns

Pattaya, one of Thailand’s most famous tourist hotspots, has experienced several high-profile incidents involving foreign visitors in recent months.

Earlier this year, two British tourists were hospitalized following a violent street fight involving a bodybuilder in the city’s nightlife district.

Local authorities continue to urge tourists to respect local laws and avoid confrontations that could escalate into violence.
