Hong Kong Police Arrest Teenager After Box Cutter Found on City Bus
Hong Kong police have arrested a 14-year-old boy after a box cutter was discovered on a double-decker bus, following an alleged incident involving a dispute between students.
According to police, the teenager was identified through onboard CCTV footage after a passenger reported finding a box cutter lodged between two seats on the upper deck of a Citybus route operating between Pok Fu Lam and Central.
Investigators said the incident occurred while the boy was traveling with several schoolmates. During an argument over what authorities described as a minor matter, the teenager allegedly produced the box cutter and pointed it at his classmates.
The suspect reportedly left the bus in Wan Chai and abandoned the cutting tool before leaving the scene.
Weapon Recovered
The recovered box cutter measured approximately 13 centimeters in length and featured a small retractable blade. Although no injuries were reported, police treated the matter seriously due to the potential danger posed to passengers.
Following an investigation, officers arrested the teenager on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and attempted wounding.
Released on Bail
Authorities confirmed that the suspect has been released on bail while investigations continue. He is required to report back to the police later this month.
Police described the case as an isolated incident but emphasized that carrying or threatening others with a weapon can lead to severe legal consequences.
Safety Concerns on Public Transport
The incident has raised concerns about passenger safety on public transportation, particularly involving young people carrying potentially dangerous items.
Law enforcement officials urged students and members of the public to resolve conflicts peacefully and avoid actions that could endanger others.
Hong Kong police also reminded residents that offenses involving weapons and threats of violence can carry significant penalties under local law.
The investigation remains ongoing.
