Prime Minister Hun Manet Denies Reports of Education and Health Budget Cuts to Fund Defense Spending
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has rejected reports claiming that the government plans to reduce funding for education and healthcare in order to increase spending on national defense.
Speaking during a graduation ceremony and inauguration event at the National Institute of Physical Education and Sports Education in Phnom Penh, the Prime Minister described such reports as inaccurate and misleading.
Government Rejects Budget Cut Claims
Recent reports circulating in some media outlets suggested that Cambodia could reduce spending on priority sectors, including education and healthcare, by more than $170 million in 2027 and redirect those funds toward defense programs.
Prime Minister Hun Manet firmly denied those claims, stating that the government has no policy to cut education or health budgets in order to finance military expenditures.
According to the Prime Minister, both sectors will continue receiving increased support in future national budgets.
Education and Healthcare Spending Expected to Rise
During his remarks, Hun Manet emphasized that spending on education and healthcare has continued to grow despite increased demands in other sectors.
