The Japanese government has provided more than US$140,000 to the Koh Rong Municipal Administration, Sihanoukville Province, to build a new port in Koh Rong district that will facilitate transportation between Koh Rong and the mainland.
Speaking at the grant ceremony on February 14, the Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, Uino Atsushi, said: "The new port will facilitate the safe and efficient travel of approximately 3,000 local people, as well as facilitate the transportation of goods, as well as support the Navy's activities in various emergency situations."
This assistance is part of Japan's Sanone Project or the Grant for the Small Format Project on Human Security.
On the same day, the Japanese government also provided more than $63,000 in funding to install a new equipment manufacturing machine to replace the old one with limited functionality at an organ assembly factory in Phnom Penh.
With this new machine, the Japanese Ambassador hopes that it will contribute to improving productivity and quality as well as spending less time to produce artificial devices in this factory.
"I am pleased to have observed Cambodia's rapid development in recent years, however, I also acknowledge that there are still many challenges that Japan can help to improve the quality of life of its people. Both "Kusanone" as well.
Kusanone started in Cambodia in 1991 and to date, a total of more than US$70 million has been provided for 694 small-scale projects nationwide.
