More than US$6.5 million fined for vehicles violating traffic laws in 2024!!!

Phnom Penh News:
 During the 2024 Mainland Road Traffic Law Enforcement Inspection, 116,308 illegal vehicles were detected and fined, totaling 26,230,185,000,000 KHR or more than US$6.5 million.
According to the 2024 Mainland Road Traffic Safety Work Results and the 2025 Work Direction of the National Road Traffic Safety Committee.
In addition, 124,734 drivers (22,857 females) were fined for driving license points and technical equipment.
Of which, 88 982 motorcycles were offended, 90 704 cases and 3 142 points had to be withdrawn.
In the case of light vehicles, there were 33 956 units, of which 34 706 cases were offended, and 60 737 points had to be withdrawn.
For heavy vehicles, there were 1 796 units, of which 1 897 cases and 1 556 points were also deducted.
For the inspection of technically improperly processed vehicles in the provincial capital, a total of 57,608 units were inspected.
Of these, 42,109 vehicles were valid and 15,499 vehicles were technically incorrect.
Separately, in 2024, compared to 2053, traffic accidents decreased by 473 times, equivalent to 14 percent (2 844/3 317 times).
Of which, the number of deaths decreased by 81 or 5 percent (1 509/1 5950) and the number of injured decreased by 795 or 18 percent (3 720/4 515).
The report stated that 896 traffic accidents occurred in Phnom Penh, 246 in Sihanoukville, and 236 in Kampong Speu.
The causes of accidents include 41 percent of speeding offenses, 23 percent of disrespectful rights, 9 percent of carelessness, 8 percent of dangerous driving, 8 percent of dangerous driving, 4 percent of drunk and 4 percent of motor vehicles, etc.
Of the 80 percent who died were motorcyclists, 67 percent were not wearing helmets.
Compared to 2023, there were a total of 5 290 483/4 910 479 vehicles, an increase of 380 004 units, equivalent to 7 percent.
The accident resulted in damage to 298/369 vehicles, down 71 units, equal to 24 percent, and resulting in 16/5 deaths, an increase of 11 people, equal to 69 percent, serious injuries of 14/18 people, a decrease of 4 people, or 22 percent.
The National Road Traffic Safety Committee mentioned that along with the positive effects of the traffic situation, some negative points and challenges are also observed.
The rate of motorcyclist deaths remained high at 80 percent, of which 67 percent did not wear a helmet during an accident.
In addition, the number of illegal cases that are subject to interim penalties continues to occur at approximately 319 cases per day.
Of which, the offenses that remain at a high rate are not wearing a helmet at 70 percent, driving over the speed limit at 39 percent, and traffic signals at 20 percent, which reflects the disregard for respect of some road users.
Apart from that, the use of modern technology to post information on social networks by the Armed Forces remains a sensitive point, which requires continuous attention to reduce the inactivity of traffic police officers and strengthen the rapid reaction mechanism to eliminate efficiency promptly.
The 236 accidents on the expressway in 2024 also resulted in 16 deaths.
According to the Weekly Traffic Report on the Expressway, from 17 February to 23 February, the total number of traffic on the expressway was 105,360 times in a week.
The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway Company also appealed to all citizens to comply with the conditions of use of the expressway as well as to strictly obey the laws on road traffic by not driving over the speed limit and not driving in the opposite direction of traffic.
