At the launch ceremony of the E-Commerce Report, 2024 held at the Ravel Le Royal Hotel on 24 February, Ms. Cham Virtual, Minister of Trade, mentioned that over the past few years, the Ministry of Commerce has been actively working to develop the Electronic Trade Trust Identification (CETS) framework, in line with the Ministry of Commerce in collaboration with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. To establish a Declaration on Ethics (e-commerce) to enhance customer trust, promote fair business practices, and strengthen the legal regulatory framework for e-commerce in Cambodia.
She added that e-commerce is not only a tool to help boost economic growth, but it is also a means of empowering and empowering communities through creating opportunities and change.
In fact, rural entrepreneurs can sell their products anywhere in the world using just a mobile phone.
Ms. Cham Virtual stated: "While Cambodia is getting ready to leave the least developed countries, we must be fully ready to embrace the upcoming changes, and such challenges will also provide ample opportunities for us to take advantage of digital commerce to replace these challenges."
On the occasion, the Minister also highlighted the key priorities that Cambodia needs to focus on in the development of e-commerce, including 1. investment in digital infrastructure (expansion of internet, transport, and secure payment systems), 2) promotion of digital literacy (ensuring that Cambodians nationwide have the necessary skills to participate in the digital economy through training programs and public awareness campaigns), and 3. Strengthening consumer protection (establishing clear regulations on data privacy and return payments, and establishing an e-commerce trust certificate framework that will help encourage more consumers to participate in online marketing).
"I encourage all stakeholders to participate in driving the e-commerce sector to the next level by building a thriving e-commerce ecosystem to help Cambodia move towards a digital future and compete on the global stage," said Ms. Virtual.
Chairman of the Cambodian Digital Technology Association, Chin Ken, told Phnom Penh Post on February 25 that the technology sector is moving faster in business activities in Cambodia, especially in towns with well-functioning internet networks.
In addition, the arrival of artificial intelligence (AI) is also making the context of doing business in Cambodia and the world move forward faster.
He stated: "AI technology makes the context of doing business in the world more hectic and flexible.
However, Mr. Chin Ken asserted that human resources in Cambodia are still limited, which requires more time to develop knowledge and skills for daily use.
